NC Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat is looking for an experienced professional to join our team as a Lead Optician in our newly located and expanding Chapel Hill office. Position is Full-Time, Monday - Friday. Occasional Saturday and/or evening work may be required. PURPOSE OF THE JOB To serve primarily as a Licensed Optician at a satellite office with some responsibility for the oversight of day-to-day operations of that particular optical center. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Analyze and interpret prescriptions. Determine facial and eye measurements to be sent to lab. Assist the patient in selecting appropriate frames and lenses by assessing individual patient needs. Deliver prescription eyewear/vision aids and instruct customers in use and care. Provide follow-up services, including eyewear adjustment, repair, and replacement. Assist in various business duties, including frame and lens inventory, supply, product display and maintenance. Send orders for corrective eyewear and other vision aids to lab or vendors daily or when needed. Train patients on how to remove and insert contact lenses Supervises employees at designated location; maintaining employee schedule in that location, approving time sheets. Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. May assist in training new personnel. Review and approve all discounts, exchanges, and refunds at assigned location in accordance with NCEENT policies. Negotiate and manage vendor accounts at assigned location as approved by the Optical Manager, ensuring maximum discount potential and appropriate vendor representative follow-up. Decision making must account for the impact on key performance indicators/benchmarking for local site. Monitor and control all expenses pertaining to assigned location including; lab costs, frame purchases, and all other miscellaneous and controllable expenses. Run inventory of frames once a year Periodically monitor ordering and delivery or turnaround time of eyeglass orders and contact lens orders at assigned location. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Optical Manager. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises optical staff at assigned location. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Must be licensed by North Carolina State Board of Opticians. Requires excellent communication skills, sales skills, customer service skills and a keen understanding of patients with sensory impairment. Must be able to express a caring attitude while performing tasks required with accuracy and efficiency.
