TheCoordinator of Alumni Reunionsworks to help alumni and friends develop a lifelong relationship with the UNC General Alumni Association (GAA) and the University. In partnership with the other Coordinator of Alumni Reunions, this position shares the primary responsibility for managing GAA alumni reunion events, including Spring Reunions, class milestones and affinity reunions.This position, under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Enrichment Programs, will also partner with other programs team members to support, plan and execute additional events and initiatives of the General Alumni Associations programs team.Spring Reunions

  • In partnership with the other Coordinator of Alumni Reunions, plan and execute the GAAs annual Spring Reunions Weekend each May (held in conjunction with Commencement weekend). This weekend includes several class reunions and additional components such as campus tours, enrichment sessions, awards luncheon and social events.This also includes, but is not limited to:
  • Coordinating, supporting and mobilizing reunion committee volunteers
  • Securing appropriate venues, vendors and seamless logistics for various weekend logistics
  • Researching, coordinating and supporting the production and distribution of the 50threunion yearbook, the revisedYackety Yack
  • Partnering to ensure event feel aligns with vision and audience of key stakeholders
  • Managing event registrations using various software
  • Sending post-reunion surveys, photos, volunteer gifts, etc.Class Milestones
    • In partnership with the other Coordinator of Alumni Reunions, revitalize, strengthen and innovate class milestone celebrations, typically planned to coincide with Homecoming weekend each fall. These celebrations would target alumni celebrating 5th, 10th, 15th, 20thand 25thclass anniversaries.
    • Support the efforts of non-milestone class gatherings.Affinity Reunions
      • Facilitate affinity reunions assigned by Assistant Director of Enrichment Programs in concert with current guiding principles (i.e. event logistics, marketing and volunteer management)
      • Lead tasks supporting growth and development of affinity reunions.
      • Actively recruit and/or facilitate an average of 10 -15 affinity reunions per year
      • Work with the programs outreach sub-team to coordinate affinity gatherings to take place during Homecoming week and weekend.Additional Responsibilities
        • Represent the GAA as requested at GAA events including support of local outreach efforts with the programs team or other events.
        • After training and in consultation with the Manager of Marketing, collaborate on marketing strategies for various audiences. Update the GAA website as needed for assigned events, including building and editing basic Web page elements
        • Identify, support and guide volunteers involved in various events including, but not limited to, communication, training and alignment with critical GAA deadlines and policies
        • Manage, train and develop student interns as needed to support the execution of various programs and projects
        • Make strategic budget recommendations and decisions regarding events; ensure all activities are within approved budgets and comply with GAA guiding principles and operating procedures
        • Provide assistance in the execution of program events, including assistance with facility reservations/requirements and use as well as audio/video taping arrangements
        • Assist in the recruitment and retention of GAA members through all activities and events
        • Participate in and attend GAA quarterly board meetings. Prepare materials as requested.
        • Continue to strengthen and sustain the GAAs relationships with UNC faculty and staff through touchpoints and events
        • Upon the invitation of the GAA President, serve as a GAA host on an alumni tourRequirementsA bachelors degree is required. Applicants with existing UNC context or experience with the UNC community and the Chapel Hill-Raleigh-Durham areas will find this helpful in this role.Special Requirements and Specific Tools/Skills RequiredExcellent interpersonal skills to cultivate relationships with alumni, University friends, GAA staff and University colleagues. Experience with event coordination and planning is important. A proven ability to relate to a diverse population. Excellent writing, interpersonal communication and adept multitasking skills required; must be able to write content for external communication and internal reports with minimal supervision. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and proven ability to use technology tools to enhance efficiency. Must be detail oriented and able to handle telephone and email inquiries from alumni and other event attendees.
