MEDICAL CODER INPATIENT - UNCHCS HIM CODING AND CDI-HEA0092O Description Position : Medical Coder - Inpatient Location : 100% Remote after training period (Even though this position is 100% remote after initial training, we only employ candidates residing in Florida, Iowa, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin. You must currently reside or be willing to relocate to one of these states) Hours : 40/week This position may involve support of various hospitals and health care systems within the UNC Health Care System, but will be employed by Rex Hospital, Inc. (this includes, but is not limited to, for purposes of payroll, health benefits, retirement options, and applicable policies) Reviews, abstracts and assigns technical, professional, and ethical International Classification of Diseases-10-CM/PCS (ICD-10-CM/PCS) to inpatient services and ICD-10-CM. Ensures compliance with third party, State and Federal regulations. Reviews, analyzes and abstracts physician/other documentation for diagnoses, procedures, ancillary testing, medications, laboratory and other services provided. Obtains missing information and/or clarifies existing information. Completes volume of work from medical records and other sources according to departmental productivity standards. Accurately assigns International Classification of Diseases 10-CM/PCS (ICD-10) diagnostic and procedural codes. Groups codes and completed product into payment group. Analyzes information for optimal and proper reimbursement. Ensures compliance with all appropriate coding, billing and data collection regulations and procedures. Uses appropriate software to validate information. Utilizes Epic, Optum CAC/Encoder, MS Office, and other software as appropriate to compile and validate medical information. Qualifications Requires high school diploma, and , one of the following: - AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) certification - AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) certification - AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) certification - RN (Registered Nurse) license - LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and 24 months of hospital medical coding experience a nd successful completion of the UNCH Coder Proficiency Test.
