Certifications: ACLS, NRP, PALS, CPFT, or advanced practice

Description: Under the direction of department management, the
Respiratory Therapist II demonstrates an advanced level of
knowledge in respiratory care and assigned patient care areas. The
Respiratory Therapist II administers competent care of patients
through airway management and mechanical ventilator management.
Oxygen therapy and aerosol therapy are also part of the
responsibilities. Respiratory care procedures and treatments are
designed to assess, prevent, stabilize, or remedy patients'
respiratory dysfunction. The therapist administers standard
respiratory care, including aerosol medication delivery, basic
bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, and
arterial punctures. Provides for all aspects of airway management,
including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care,
tracheostomy tube changes, and endotracheal intubations. May
perform pulmonary function testing as needed. When part of a
transport team, the therapist may transport pediatric and neonatal
patients from referral hospitals. May perform advanced practice
procedures, including UAC, UVC, IV insertion, chest tube insertion,
and needle decompression. May manage extracorporeal circulation for
cardiac and respiratory support of patients. May be required to be
on-call days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Perform all aspects
of ventilator care, including setting up the ventilator and
verifying function. Provide appropriate monitoring of these
patients and employ appropriate weaning techniques. Maintains and
improves job knowledge and skills, functioning independently with
minimal supervision. Serves as a resource to other staff reflective
