Clinical Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Unit
Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience:
Minimum 1 year of nursing experience with a focus in cardiothoracic
intensive care. License: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse
in the state. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) for
Healthcare Provider certification. Must-Have: One year of nursing
experience. Description: Provides competent clinical nursing care
consistent with professional standards. Reports and is accountable
to the Nurse Manager/Director. Responsible for coordinating and
delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital
setting. Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of
self. Attends education programs based on identified learning
needs. Uses patient education materials relevant to patient
population with assistance. Assesses readiness to learn of the
patient, family, and caregivers. Assesses developmental level of
patient and factors affecting the ability to learn. Identifies
expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance as needed in the
revision of the plan of care. Participates in discussions with
members of the interdisciplinary team in the evaluation of patient
care. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of
care. Demonstrates competence in the care of patients with complex
problems. Includes population-appropriate physical, psychosocial,
educational, and safety aspects of care. Performs bedside point of
care testing as required for the patient care plan. Utilizes
nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivering care.
Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family
needs. Consults with appropriate resources in a timely manner
regarding patients with complex care issues. Develops goals to
promote professional growth or minimize limitations with
assistance. Achieves goals and objectives within identified time
frames or renegotiates with supervisor. Maintains awareness of
activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and
performance improvement initiatives. Effectively uses communication
systems. Participates in promoting cost-effective care. Provides
feedback to co-workers. Is knowledgeable about public policy and
regulatory guidelines affecting the health care environment.
Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for
care. Synthesizes assessment data into a meaningful whole prior to
communicating with others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs
of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with
families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and
their own needs. Collaborates with patient and family to prepare or
update the plan of care. Utilizes available multidisciplinary
resources in planning care. Begins to use a full range of
communication as a means to convey planning. Identifies and
addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with
complex problems. Reads journals that contain studies or articles
that may be applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to
