We support our faculty with professional development opportunities in the department, in the institution, and nationally. Each faculty member is supported by a mentoring subcommittee that helps build the framework to a successful career, including career planning, counseling around career goals, and regular review of academic activities, all tailored to individual professional and personal goals. The selected candidate will join our growing sports medicine team in our Durham, NC community based practice. The position will serve as an extension of the Sports Medicine Program Director's vision, leading and coordinating various initiatives and programs. The Department of Family Medicine is committed to building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from minority candidates. The Department prefers full-time positions, but is willing to negotiate to no less than .75 FTE (full time equivalent). Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Clinical: Responsible for providing sports medicine as well as primary care services to our patient population, including testing for exertional compartment syndrome, ultrasound evaluation, and ultrasound guided injections. The position will also work with community programs providing game coverage.
  • Teaching & Education: Responsible for teaching a variety of learners, including medical students, residents, interns, and sports medicine fellows. Selected candidates will attend Graduate Medical Education meetings in the event the program director is unable to attend, and will attend yearly American Medical Society for Sports Medicine ( AMSSM ) meetings and submit materials for presentation. The faculty member will participate in all educational programs provided by the program.
  • Research: All faculty are encouraged to develop a scholarly interest. Clinical faculty are expected to produce a scholarly product, which may include national presentations and should include manuscript submission, at a rate of one every one or two years. Mentoring and coordinating research projects for the Sports Medicine fellows and residents.
  • Institutional Citizenship: All faculty are expected to work as part of the larger team to improve access, reduce cost, improve quality, and promote efficiency and better health outcomes. You may be asked to engage in community outreach and attend professional events to assist with program development and building professional relationships. In addition, attention to timely and complete documentation and patient satisfaction is expected.Education and Experience:Candidates must be board eligible or board certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Med Peds. Fellowship training and/or an advanced degree (e.g. MPH ) is highly desirable, but not mandatory.Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and with a program and/or systems development. Sports Medicine research, and working with IRB processes experience is preferred. Experience teaching residents and medical students. In addition, the ideal candidate will need to possess the ability to communicate with a variety of learner groups and attending physicians and to collaborate and work in a team environment.
