DescriptionThis position is posted on behalf of and will be
employed by UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL.The North
Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences (NC TraCS) Institute
at UNC-CH is one of the medical research institutions working
together as a national consortium to improve the way biomedical
research is conducted across the country. The consortium, funded
through the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA),
shares a common vision to reduce the time it takes for laboratory
discoveries to become treatments for patients, and to engage
communities in clinical research efforts. The Center for Clinical
and Translational Research (CTRC) is a program of the TraCS
Institute within the home of the UNC School of Medicine. The CTRC
provides both inpatient and outpatient clinical services to support
a wide variety of research studies involving human subjects with an
array of investigators representing the Schools of Dentistry,
Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing and others. The-This
position will serve as a clinical nurse with a focus on the care of
research participants. They will provide specialized, professional
nursing care to research subjects for healthy volunteers and to
those with unusual and distinctive medical problems. They support
study implementation within the context of care delivery settings
such as the NC TraCS CTRC and UNC Medical Center as well as
research on location services (including driving to a site) at UNC
Heath clinics and hospitals, the Schools of UNC and community
locations. They ensure the integrity of research data while
maintaining care that is safe, efficient, timely, effective,
equitable, compassionate and patient-centered.-Job responsibilities
include but are not limited to: provision of direct nursing care
and support, using the nursing process, to participants in clinical
research, their families and significant others (care requirements
are determined by the scope of study participation, the clinical
condition of the patient and the requirements and clinical effects
of research procedures); management of clinical and research
support activities in order to assure patient safety, address
clinical needs and assure protocol integrity and accurate data
collection; coordination of research and clinical activities to
meet clinical needs, complete study requirements and manage linkage
with principal investigators; facilitation of informed and safe
participation of diverse populations in clinical research;
providing direct, individualized care to pediatric and adult
research patients who are participating in research protocols;
phlebotomy and IV insertion; preparing and administering
investigational medications; performing ECG's; collecting and
processing specimens; data collection; providing direction and
health teaching where applicable in relation to study protocol
activities; reporting and recording care rendered; reporting the
patient's response to that care; charge nurse duties and
contributing to the CTRC's continuous quality improvement
program.-QUALIFICATIONSLicense to practice as a Registered Nurse in
the State of North Carolina. Must be able to work with a variety of
people in a professional, effective, diplomatic manner and maintain
effective communications with patients, health care personnel,
staff, and others.-Must be able to work independently, as well as
function as part of a team. The position requires significant
attention to detail and the ability to successfully balance
multiple competing priorities. Candidate should be flexible,
collaborative, and have a willingness to assist others whenever
needed. Ability to maintain a positive, results oriented work
environment, contributing positively to teamwork and morale.
Ability to convey information clearly and concisely (both written
and verbal). Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification.-Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a minumum of one
(1) year of direct clinical nursing experience. Minimum of 6 months
experience working with human subjects in a clinical research
setting. Minimum of 6 months experience working as a pediatric
nurse. Possess a variety of healthcare experience with an emphasis
on medical-surgical nursing. Experience working at UNC Medical
Center in a clinical care area.-Experience with Epic (UNC Health's
electronic medical record). Experience in the administration of
biotherapy and/or investigational medication. Possess strong
computer skills and have a working knowledge of Word, Excel and
Outlook. Proficient in intravenous access and/or
phlebotomy.-Requires graduation from a state-accredited school of
professional nursing. The individual assuming this position must
possess current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of
North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing with no
restrictions or pending actions. Current Healthcare Provider Basic
Life Support (BLS) certification. Valid NC driver's license.-Visual
attention and mental concentration is required at all times in this
capacity due to the clinical nature of the work. Ability to sit for
extended periods of time in front of a computer and move 30 lbs
with or without accommodation. Ability to travel distances within
the hospital, on campus and to offsite locations for research on
