VOLUNTEER SERVICES MANAGERReports to: --------------Director of OperationsFLSA Status:---------- ExemptHours:------------------------------Full-time; 40 hours per weekSECU Family House provides affordable housing, support and respite for family members and patients at UNC Hospitals. The 40-bedroom facility creates a comfortable, inviting, family-like environment to help families feel at home and foster a strong community. The Family House Volunteer Program is a critical part of the network of support for families in residence at SECU Family House. We are currently recruiting a Volunteer Services Manager to join our team.--The Volunteer Services Manager oversees all day-to-day management of the volunteer program, as well as planning for the program's expansion concurrent with the House's physical expansion.--The successful candidate will be a consummate networker and communicator, able to initiate, develop, and maintain cooperative relationships with key constituencies.Responsibilities include:RecruitmentSeeks to develop and maintain a diverse volunteer baseDevelops strategies for engaging the Triangle community in volunteer opportunities at Family HouseNetworks and builds relationships within the existing volunteer base, as well as in the broader community, to recruit new house volunteers and meal providersInitiates and maintains outreach efforts to businesses and service groups in the greater Triangle community including UNC Healthcare, UNC, churches, civic groups, Greek organizations, public and private schools and their clubs to generate interest in providing volunteer services to SECU Family HouseCommunicates with and provides information to interested, potential volunteersReviews volunteer applications and interviews prospective volunteersCoordinationProvides daily onsite management and support of volunteersManages volunteer scheduling in VolunteerHub; ensures that all essential volunteer shifts are filled on a weekly basisWorks with Operations Team to develop the overall scope of volunteer program in the expanded facilityIdentify volunteer jobs neededResearch and strategize new ways to enhance the guest and volunteer experience as the house growsProvides strategic oversight and management of the Meal Program including increasing corporate meal provider participation.Assigns volunteers and volunteer groups to roles/tasks consistent with the needs of the houseUpdate role descriptions and qualifications for each volunteer functionCommunicationMaintains communication with volunteers on a daily basisServes as liaison between volunteers and other Family House staff concerning questions, conflicts and ideasDevelops marketing strategy and materials for in-house programming available to guests (ex. pet therapy, meals, music and arts)Writes copy for quarterly volunteer newsletter to recognize volunteers and volunteer groups, and to share house news and announcementsDevelops volunteer-related content for social media accounts and Family House publications (impact report, brochures, videos)Ensures that website and other marketing materials relating to volunteer services are accurate and consistent; updated regularlyAppreciation & EngagementPlans, coordinates and implements annual Volunteer Appreciation EventPlans and implements volunteer engagement events and strategies including, but not limited to:Regular social and educational events for volunteersMonthly volunteer birthday card mailingOrganizes and implements appreciation ideas during National Volunteer Week, including voting for the annual Family House Volunteer of the Year AwardTraining and DevelopmentDevelops orientation and training programs (including materials) for all volunteer rolesCoordinates and implements training for all new volunteers including use of VolunteerHub and Family Registry, our reservation system.Identifies and implements ongoing/specialized training as requiredEnsures that volunteers have necessary resources to complete tasksFacilitates volunteer job reassignments as necessary?EvaluationManages program evaluation activities to continuously solicit volunteer feedback, including but not limited to:Town Hall meetingsAnnual Volunteer Satisfaction SurveyAdditional ResponsibilitiesManages volunteer budget and expensesAttends staff meetingsTracks, audits and reports volunteer service hours using Volunteer HubSupervises part-time Volunteer Services Assistant and other skills-based volunteersPartners with the Development Team in executing strategies to engage volunteers as donorsProvides support at Family House special eventsServes on Operations Committee of the SECU Family House Board of DirectorsRespects the confidentiality of all Family House constituencies.Qualifications5 - 7 years of work experience demonstrating an ability to engage, manage and motivate a diverse staff of volunteers and/or employees, especially during times of change.Have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree.Be a team leader and team player with a track record of rallying diverse community support.Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.Bring knowledge of the greater Triangle area and local philanthropic environment.Have the ability to work a non-traditional schedule as evening and weekend may be required at times.Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPointAbility to effectively deal with varying constituencies, some of whom will require high levels of attention, patience, tact and diplomacy, to resolve issues.Meet physical requirements of the position including the ability to climb stairs and stand/walk for extended periods of time;
