Position Description:
The Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, seeks a visionary health care leader to serve as the Division Director of the Master of Health Sciences-Physician Assistant Studies Program. This is a newly accredited program with the ARC-PA, well-resourced in terms of faculty and staff, and poised to become one of the leading PA Programs in the country. This is an open rank, Fixed-Term or Tenure Track, faculty appointment. The Division Director must be a Physician Assistant (PA) and devote at least 80% of their effort to program leadership. The other 20% can comprise, funded-research, clinical service in the hospital system or community, or some combination. Key program responsibilities include:

  • Visionary leadership to lead this program to the national level
  • Supervision of the medical director and all principal and instructional faculty
  • Program organization, administration, and fiscal management
  • Continuous programmatic review, analysis, assessment, and adherence to ARC-PA accreditation standards and policies
  • Program planning and strategic program development/expansion
  • Faculty recruitment, development, and retention
  • Facilitating faculty mentoring and their professional development
  • Facilitating staff roles, responsibilities, and professional development
  • Pursuing mission specific goals of recruiting non-traditional students; recruiting veterans, especially those with health care experience; preparing a diverse student body for careers in primary care and generalist health specialties; leading efforts to advance inter-professional health care education and rural health; and assisting in the development of PA post-graduate residency and fellowship programs
  • Engaging in teaching, clinical care, and scholarly activities in their area(s) of expertise and interest
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in both PA education and the PA profession This position is open until filled Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Education Requirements:
    Excellent and effective communication skills, flexibility, the ability to forge inter-professional relationships within a complex, integrated academic health center, promoting a collaborative work environment, and a strong commitment to personal and professional growth are essential. All candidates must be certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (PA-C); possess or be eligible for medical licensure in the state of North Carolina; and satisfy all requirements for the Program Director position per the ARC-PA Fifth Edition Standards. Qualifications and Experience:
    The ideal candidate will have at least three years of higher education experience at the time of appointment and leadership experience in a PA Program. A doctoral degree is preferred.
