J. Murrey Atkins Library supports the publication of scholarly works, including open access online journals, eBooks, digital exhibits, and conference proceedings. In addition, the library is in the process of launching an institutional repository using Islandora. Since 2012, the library has published five open access journals, five ebook titles, one conference, and four Omeka exhibits. Although the demand for digital publishing has increased steadily over the years, increased awareness and outreach related to the librarys role in supporting open access, digital publishing, and the institutional repository is still needed. The Scholarly Communications & Digital Publishing Fellow will work with the Head of Library Technology Innovation and the Copyright and Licensing Librarian to support ongoing digital publishing efforts and increase campus awareness of our services. The Fellowship provides an opportunity to utilize open-source tools (OJS, OMP, OCS, Islandora) to launch and support digital publishing projects such as a new research journal, ebook, digital exhibit, or the institutional repository. The fellow will also work with the Copyright and Licensing Librarian to learn about copyright practices in research libraries and higher education, and how copyright practices apply to library publishing, open access, and authors rights. Specifically, the fellow will have the opportunity to learn about the process of researching the copyright status of various materials in the collection, seeking permissions, and conducting a fair use analysis. Through independent research and hands-on learning, the fellow with help the library grow digital publishing services and increase awareness of the evolving scholarly communication landscape in higher education. Duties and Responsibilities: * Conduct literature review and environmental scan of academic library outreach efforts as it relates to Open Access, institutional repositories, and digital publishing * In collaboration with library faculty and staff, design and develop interactive online learning modules and marketing materials to promote scholarly communication, digital publishing, and the forthcoming institutional repository * Utilize digital publishing tools such as OJS, OMP, OCS, and Omeka to support the development of ongoing and new digital publishing initiatives Applicants must have completed 24 credits (or two full semesters of work) toward a Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program
