The UNC General Alumni Association's digital editor is responsible for content on the GAA's website,, which has an average of 49,000 monthly unique visits. Content includes:

  • The online versions of the -Carolina Alumni Review;
  • The GAA's social media channels; and
  • The GAA's e-newsletter -Out of the Blue, reaching 165,000 alumni and others every month.The digital editor collaborates with the association's communications staff - including editors, designers and web developer - and outside contributors to develop and produce original online content as well as to add online value to print news and feature stories, emphasizing multimedia elements such as slideshows, audio, video and links to other related content. The digital editor collaborates with the social media team to curate and advance the GAA's digital presence, which represents the organization's most dynamic growth area and is a primary means to reach an ever-widening audience through the highest quality content possible.The platforms inform alumni about their University - the place and the people connected to it - and support enrichment opportunities to alumni and friends of the GAA and UNC. The -Review, founded in 1912, reaches alumni and others worldwide who are dues-paying members of the GAA, in addition to people in the University community in Chapel Hill, including administrators, faculty and students. The magazine upholds the highest journalistic standards and adheres to a Statement of Purpose that reflects the values and goals of both the association and the University. It has been recognized with regional and national awards for its writing, design and photography, earning 65 awards since 1996 from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.A successful candidate will be:
    • A creative thinker, able to imagine unique approaches to tell stories online and possibilities for adapting print content for web platforms.

    • Experienced in video and audio production, including podcasts. Proficiency preferred but not required.

    • Open to deviating from what's always been done in order to create a better solution.The digital editor:
      • Plans, creates, writes, edits and publishes information on the GAA's website;
      • Conceives and develops multimedia content for the GAA's website and social media channels;
      • Collaborates with staff to write, edit and curate the GAA's social media channels for optimal engagement;
      • Oversees the production of video/multimedia pieces that expand on -Carolina Alumni Review -content, including news and feature stories related to campus events such as reunions, Homecoming and other University events;
      • Mines the -Carolina Alumni Review -digital archive and University resources - including library collections and University research - to produce multimedia content of interest to the alumni audience;
      • Assists in editing and writing HTML for the Review's monthly email and the news section of the GAA's monthly e-newsletter -Out of the Blue;
      • Advises on appropriate hardware and software needed for multimedia production;
      • Advises on best use of WordPress tools and scouts out additional features that might be needed in the online toolbox;
      • Demonstrates knowledge of ethical and legal issues involved in reporting, producing and publishing such content;
      • Maintains relationships across various campus and alumni constituencies to develop and share appropriate multimedia content;
      • Participates in strategic planning and departmental meetings;
      • Performs other duties as assigned.An undergraduate degree and at least three years of work experience in digital storytelling and website curation is required. Preference will be given to those familiar with The University of North Carolina and a track record of innovative thinking and production.
