# Position Summary Information## Department DescriptionThe UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is a nationally recognized leader in progressive pharmaceutical care practice, education, and research. Over the past twenty-five years, the School has built a reputation for cutting-edge research, rigorous programs, and outstanding faculty, staff, and students. Our unique environment has inspired a number of collaborative centers that provide faculty and students with access to sophisticated equipment and numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary research. It has been recently named the # 1 School of Pharmacy in the nation by US News and World Report. The Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy (DPOP) is committed to excellence in research, education, and service that advances the optimal use of medications with the goal of improving human health. Medications play a critical role in the prevention and management of many acute and chronic illnesses. However, the potential benefits that can be derived from medications are mitigated by a myriad of factors operating at different levels of the ecological framework (e.g., patient, family, health-care provider, health-care system, governmental policy). Key challenges must be addressed to optimize medication use. Addressing these complex issues requires an interdisciplinary approach aimed at expanding scientific knowledge and translating this knowledge into solutions that improve optimal medication use. DPOP has eleven faculty members, 39 adjunct faculty members and up to 11 graduate students. DPOP is one of the few programs in the country housed in a school of pharmacy with faculty who have an active research program in pharmaceutical outcomes and policy. Our scientific interests are diverse and span key and innovative areas in contemporary outcomes research: Communication and Decision Making, Comparative Effectiveness, Health Disparities, Medication Utilization, Pharmacy Practice Models, Patient Centered Outcomes Pharmaceutical Policy Analysis, and Genomics.## Equal Opportunity EmployerThe University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
